The New Dorp Lighthouse is a decommissioned lighthouse in New Dorp in Staten Iceland, New York City. The funds for the construction of the lighthouse was approved by the Congress of the United States on 31 August 1852. 1856 the building was completed. The fortress served as marking the entrance to the Swash Channel, a waterway in the Lower New York Bay. It was designed by Richard Carlow, who built about the same time the Chapel Hill Light, and the Point Comfort Range Lights in New Jersey. Ships which the Swash Channel sailed, the Beacon in New Dorp had to drive until the Chapel Hill Light came into view, which marked the course of the fairway from the West Bank.

Originally the lighthouse a second-order Fresnel lens with a constant red light that ¨ is 192 feet ( about 58 m) above sea level. 1891, the light character was changed to a constant white light. 1907, the light source of oil on an electric light source has been changed, whereby the light intensity was increased. 1939 a six- Fresnel lens was installed.

The New Dorp Lighthouse 1964 identified and barred from service. The next ten years were land and building neglected and vandalized; 1974 was auctioned off in an auction for $ 32,000 to a private individual from Staten Iceland, who renovated it extensively and converted into an apartment.

New Dorp Light was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. As early as 1967 was the building that can not be visited by the public, as a New York City Landmark reported.
