New Look (policy)

The New Look is a foreign policy concept of Eisenhowerregierung, which was developed in 1953 by John Foster Dulles and presented in 1954. It was the answer to the containment policy of Harry S. Truman and in the spirit of the new NATO strategy - massive retaliation. Conventional weapons and soldiers should be exchanged for more nuclear weapons in order to reduce the cost of the defense budget.

General Maxwell D. Taylor resigned in protest against the New Look from his post as chief of staff of the army. He was under Kennedy for military special advisers.
