New Synagogue, Gliwice

The New Synagogue in Gliwice existed from 1859 to 1938. You stood at the Niederwallstraße 15, the main facade with the entrance, however, was directed to Church Street and the William Square.

The synagogue was built in 1859-1861 for the reformed Jewish community of Gliwice, when used since 1812 Old Synagogue had become too small for the thriving community. The facades were designed in the Neo-Romanesque - Moorish style by the architects Salomon Lubowski and Louis Troplowitz (father of Oscar Troplowitz ), who were being affected by Albrecht Rosengarten Kassel 's main synagogue and the publication of his views and plans in the Vienna General Bauzeitung. There were two towers on either side of the front.

During the November pogroms of 9 to 10 November 1938, the synagogue was set on fire. On November 10, it was blown up.

Today, two memorial plaques recall the synagogue and its destruction.
