New Wave of New Wave

New Wave of New Wave ( NWoNW ) is a term that was coined by the British music press in the 1990s to describe a subgenre of alternative. NWoNW bands consisted mostly of young, white men who came from the working class, and played guitar -based rock music. The movement was very short lived and many bands were later associated with the commercially successful Britpop.

The term New Wave of New Wave was referring to the obvious parallels between this emerging music scene at the beginning of the 1990s and the New Wave or the punk scene in the 1970s and 1980s. NWoNW bands often gave loudly from political commentary and were critical of the British Prime Minister John Major, but had no fixed political ideology.

The NWoNW scene was often associated with the use of the drug in connection speed, so the band members were often described as skinny and pale.
