New Zealand Post

The New Zealand Post ( NZPost ) is a state-owned company that is responsible for providing postal services in and for New Zealand.

Under the umbrella of NZPost, which also presents itself as New Zealand Post Group, another independent subsidiaries are performed. For this purpose, inter alia, include the Kiwibank Limited, Datam Limited, and operated as a joint venture company Parcel Direct Group (PDG ) in Australia and Express Couriers Limited in New Zealand. At the latter two companies, the German DHL is concerned about the German postal Investments Holding GmbH. Express Couriers was founded on 22 March 2004 with a 50 % stake along with the NZPost. The Parcel Direct Group followed in 2008 as a joint venture with the NZPost and six other regional operations in Australia packet service company.

History

1840 was opened in Kororareka today Russell the first post office in New Zealand. 40 years later, there were already more than 850 post offices across the country as a whole distributed. 1881, the Post Office Department was merged with the Electric Telegraph Department, and thus created the New Zealand Post and Telegraph Department, which was later renamed the New Zealand Post Office ( NZPO ) and around the turn of the century, the number of post offices was already over 1,700.

With the rapidly increasing colonization of New Zealand and its growing economic development, the post offices played key roles in the political, social and economic life. In addition to telecommunications and postal services has been expanded as the third important pillar of the post office to the Savings Bank. Telecom Corporation of New Zealand Limited and the Post Office Bank Limited were later privatized and continued the New Zealand Post as a State -Owned Enterprise ( SOE) ( Public Company ). The Post Office Bank was sold in 1989 as Postbank to Australia and New Zealand Banking Group ( ANZ). Telecom Corporation of New Zealand followed in 1990 by the sale of the Bell Atlantic and Ameritech, a subsidiary of AT & T.
