Newbridge ( Irish and official name is: Droichead Nua ) is a town in County Kildare in the east of the Republic of Ireland.

Newbridge, since the 1930s, officially (An) Droichead Nua, but familiar in everyday colloquial language only in its English form, located on the banks of the River Liffey and is equipped with 10,125 residents in the Census 2011 - for Naas, the administrative center of the county - the second largest town in County Kildare; it is among the twenty largest cities in the Republic of Ireland.

The origin of the town dates back to the 12th century; it was formed of six historic Parishes together with other areas and has a rich history of early Christian settlement.

Today, Newbridge, also due to its convenient location about 40 km south-west of Dublin on two national roads, a thriving industrial and commercial city with a growing population. Pharmaceutical companies like Wyeth and Oral-B have settled new addition to old-established industries here. With Bad Lippspringe and Ocala, Florida, is a city partnership.

Newbridge is located on a bypass of the M7/N7 of Dublin on the east coast to Limerick Town in the southwest of the country; continue to go west of Newbridge on the N9 Carlow Town and Kilkenny to Waterford from the M7 from.

With Iarnród Éireann Newbridge is connected by Intercity to the national railway passenger; also part of the city is also the South Western Commuter system of Iarnród Éireann and is several times a day served by Bus Éireann and other bus companies.

Sports

Newbridge is, inter alia, the home of the football club Kildare County FC. In Curragh, between Newbridge and Kildare Town, is the most famous racecourse and the venue of the five most important horses races in Ireland.
