Nexen

Nexen is a Canadian company with headquarters in Calgary.

In 1971 the company was founded under the name of Canadian Occidental Petroleum. 80 percent of the company were initially the U.S. energy company Occidental Petroleum. Currently owns Occidental Petroleum no longer shares in Nexen. Nexen produces natural gas and crude oil in Canada, the Gulf of Mexico, Colombia, Yemen, and the North Sea and off the West African coast.

In July 2012, the Chinese company CNOOC announced that it will buy Nexen. However, the takeover still has to be approved by regulatory authorities in Canada, China and the United States. After months of hesitation declared on 7 December 2012, the Government of Canada Harper the " exceptionally " approval of the sale of Nexen to the Chinese state-owned enterprises.
