Next friend

A next friend (also proximus amicus ) referred to in various Anglo-Saxon legal systems, a person who is active processes leads to a non-self actionable person, for example, prima facie a parent. She was appointed by the court for the duration of the process. This role is now occupied largely by guardianship ( guardian ad litem ).
