Next German federal election
The election of the 19th German Bundestag is - if the Bundestag not previously resolved in accordance with Article 63 or Article 68 or the legislature in the case of defense extended under Article 115 h of the Basic Law for the Federal Republic of Germany - to take place in autumn 2017.
Appointment
According to Article 39 of the Basic Law, the election at the earliest 46, held no later than 48 months after the convening of the 18th German Bundestag. The 18th German Bundestag on the 30th day met after the parliamentary election in 2013, that on 22 October 2013. Would therefore result in the choice that must be performed on a Sunday or holiday ( § 16 federal election law ), on 27 August, 3, 10th, 17th, 24th September, 1, 3 ( German Unity Day ), 8th, 15th, or at the latest on October 22, 2017 take place.
Election day is determined by the President; he does so usually in agreement with the federal and state governments. If the election again on the last or second last Sunday takes place in September ( since 1998 as usual), as would be the 17th or September 24, 2017 Election Day.

In the general election of 2013, the FDP remained under the restrictive clause of 5 %, which was not represented in the 18th German Bundestag. Thus, the current governing coalition of CDU, CSU and FDP lost its parliamentary majority, an absolute majority of parliamentary seats missed the Union parties, despite strong gains. The SPD rose slightly, but missed the target a red-green majority. Alliance 90/The Greens lost votes, just like the Left, however, could form the third largest group in the Bundestag for the first time. The alternative was only founded in April 2013 for Germany missed as well as the Pirate Party Germany and all other parties to enter parliament.
