Ney (Jura)

Ney is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Ney is at 530 m above sea level. M., about two kilometers west-southwest of the city Champagnole (air line). The village is located in the Jura, in the plane of Champagnole, south of Ain, at the northern foot of a striking mountain projection ( Bénédégand ), which leads on to the high plateau of Champagnole.

The area of ​​7.26 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The northern border is always along the Ain, which flows here with spiral running from east to west. The river runs in a valley that is recessed approximately 30 to 40 m in the plane of Champagnole. From the river, the municipality's area extends southward on the average located on 530 m level. This is flanked by a heavily wooded bluff, crowned at the upper edge of a rock band and leads to the high plateau of Champagnole. Also, 1 km wide and 2 km long valley south of the village, where the Bief de la Reculée springs, belongs to the municipality. The municipal boundary usually case runs above the escarpment. History

The place is first mentioned in the 11th century under the name Cognosh. Over time, the place name changed to Ney.

Attractions

The village church of Ney was built in the 18th century and has a remarkable altar from the 17th century. On the rising edge of the Bénédégand above the village there is a chapel.

Population

With 553 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Ney is one of the small towns in the Jura. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the range of about 250 people, a significant population increase was recorded mainly during the 1960s and 70s. Since then, the population remained at an approximately constant level.

Economy and infrastructure

Ney was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by farming village. In addition, there are now a number of companies of small and medium industries, including a large print shop and a furniture factory. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are commuters who engage in the larger towns in the area, mainly in Champagnole their work.

The village is traffic- technically quite well developed. It lies on the main road D471 which leads from Champagnole to Pont- du- Navoy and on to Lons -le- Saunier. Further road links exist with Cize, Loulle and Mont- sur- Monnet.
