Neydens

Neydens is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Neydens is located on 559 m above sea level. M., 9 km south-southwest of the City of Geneva (air line). The village extends slightly increased at the southern edge of the lake basin, in Genevois, northwest of Salève, near the border with Switzerland.

The area of ​​6.96 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the Genevois. The municipal area extends from the little valley of the Nant de Feigères (source stream of the Aire ) eastward across the plateau of Neydens. A narrow strip extends to the southeast up the relatively gently sloping hillside of Salève. Above the hamlet Verrières is 871 m above sea level. M. reached the highest elevation of Neydens.

At Neydens next to the original village includes several hamlets settlements, these are from west to east:

  • Mouvis (550 m above sea level. M. ) east of Feigères Valley
  • Les Mouilles (560 m above sea level. M. ) on the plateau
  • La Forge (580 m above sea level. M. ) on the hillside above the village
  • Moisin (610 m above sea level. M. ) on the slope of Salève
  • Verrières (700 m above sea level. M. ) on the slope of Salève

Neighboring communities of Neydens are Saint-Julien -en- Genevois in the north, Archamps in the east, the south and Beaumont Feigères in the West.

History

The village is first mentioned in 1179 under the name Noydenz. The name goes back to the Burgundian personal names Nautha and means as much as with the people of Nautha. Since the Middle Ages Neydens was under the Geneva rule; only in 1754 was the place to Savoy and henceforth shared its fate.

Attractions

The present church of Saint -Laurent was built at the beginning of the 20th century in the Gothic Revival style. Before that, there is a stone cross from the period around 1800. Chapel Notre Dame de Paix is reminiscent of the the village's major damage during the Second World War.

Population

With 1528 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Neydens one of the smaller towns in the Haute-Savoie region. Since the 1960s, a continuous increase in population was recorded. Outside the old town center created numerous houses.

Economy and infrastructure

Neydens was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by farming village. Today there are various companies of small and medium enterprises. Many working population commuters who engage in the larger towns in the area, especially in the Geneva - Annemasse, their work.

The place is a good infrastructure. It lies on the main road N201 that runs from Saint -Julien -en- Genevois to Annecy. The nearest links to the A40 and A41 motorways is located at a distance of about 3 km.
