AMD K8/K9-Serie
Suitable for all processors in the AMD K8 and AMD K9 series.
Development
The nForce4 is the first chipset with support for PCI Express and was presented in August 2004. In principle, however, these are still a nForce3 Ultra, only with PCI Express instead of AGP. However, the SATA controller has been improved and now offers four SATA ports on the SATA II standard (except nForce4 - 4x).
Models
There are the following options:
- NForce4 -4x
- NForce4 Ultra
- NForce4 SLI
- NForce4 SLI x16
NForce4 - 4x, nForce4 Ultra, and nForce4 SLI have all 20 PCIe lanes, however, allows only the Nvidia nForce4 SLI to use the in-house multi-GPU Technology SLI and SATA II only on nForce4 Ultra and nForce4 SLI. However, this is purely a marketing decision, because technically all variants are probably identical. So all nForce4 chipsets may be connecting corresponding Resitorpads ( with soldering iron or Leitlackstift ) for SATA - II and SLI -capable. When nForce4 SLI two PEG slots are provided, each with 8 PCIe lanes available. The nForce4 SLI x16 then doubled this PCIe lanes on each 16 and now offers a total of 38 PCIe lanes. For this purpose, the C51 - additional chip, a HyperTransport tunnel with additional 18 PCIe lanes, between the HyperTransport link the CPU and the nForce4 MCP is set.

Suitable for all Intel processors, which use the bus protocol AGTL .
Development
After the purchase of a license from Intel, Nvidia also offered chipsets for Intel processors, mainly to enable SLI on this platform.
