NGC 3079

NGC 3079 is the name of a barred spiral galaxy about 56 million light- years away from Earth. From the center of this galaxy hot gases shoot out which are about 3000-3500 light -years across. They come from violent star formation, called starbursts.

NGC 3079 was discovered on 1 April 1790 by the German - British astronomer William Herschel.
