NGC 4567 and NGC 4568

NGC 4567/8 or KPG 347 is a pair of two spiral galaxies in the Virgo cluster in the constellation Virgo. The galaxies are also called " The Siamese Twins" or " The Butterfly Galaxies ". It is assumed that the pair is at an early stage of the interaction.

Observation history

The object was discovered on 15 March 1784 by William Herschel. Was on 10 June 2004 as part of the Lick Observatory Supernova Survey discovered in NGC 4568 with SN 2004cc a supernova of type Ic. On January 20, 1990, it was discovered by Perlmutter and Pennypacker in NGC 4568 SN 1990b (type Ib).
