NGC 5398

NGC 5398 is a barred spiral galaxy in the constellation Centaurus. In NGC 5398 there is the huge star formation region Tol 89, which is the subject of current investigations.

Discovery

The galaxy NGC 5398 was discovered on June 3, 1836 by the British astronomer John Herschel.
