Nguyễn Văn Thiệu

Nguyễn Văn Thieu [ ŋ ʷ jə̌ ˀ n van t ʰ jə ˀ w] ( Hán Nom:阮文绍), ( born April 5, 1923 in the province of Ninh Thuận; † 29 September 2001 in Newton, near Boston, USA ) was a South Vietnamese general and president of his country.

On 3 September 1967 he was elected with 38 % of the vote as President of the Republic of Vietnam. In 1971 the re-election. He remained President until April 21, 1975, under the imminent taking of Saigon by the Communists resigned and emigrated to Taiwan. Later he lived retired in Surrey ( United Kingdom ) and most recently in Boston (USA), where he died in 2001.
