The Cappella Niccolina ( Nicholas Chapel ) is a chapel in the heart of the Vatican palace. It is located there along with the punching of Raphael and today belongs to the Vatican Museums.

History

The palace was built in the 13th century core under Innocent III. and was later completed by Nicholas V as a four- winged structure. Named after Nicholas V Cappella Niccolina is dedicated to the venerated in Rome Erzdiakonen Stephen and Lawrence and was painted by Fra Angelico, who is counted among the most important artists of his time in 1448. The St. Nicholas Chapel is the only surviving chapel Fra Angelico, with only 3 walls are preserved. The altar located on the south wall was lost. According to Giorgio Vasari, the Entombment of Christ there was shown, which, however, no longer be detected.
