Jelena Kiper was part of the team led by Ivan Shapovalov, the manager of the singing duo tATu. After the break from Shapovalov in 2001 Kiper saw her only option continues to be active as an artist in the creation of a separate vocal project.

Kiper had previously one last song for tATu written, which was titled Yes Ne Glotaju. After Kiper had met in November 2001 with Oleg Borschtschewski they completed the song and recorded it together. It now bore the name Nitschja (Russian Ничья; Nobody's German ). This title was later selected as the name for the duo.
