Nick Van Exel

Nickey Maxwell Van Exel ( born November 27, 1971 in Kenosha, Wisconsin ) is a retired American professional basketball player. The 1.86 m tall point guard acquired early because of its speed nicknamed Nick the Quick. As a student, he played for the Trinity Valley Community College and later for the Cincinnati Bearcats in the NCAA before he was selected in the NBA Draft in 1993 to 37 out of the Los Angeles Lakers. In this team he remained until 1998. Until 2006, he worked for various teams in the NBA.

Playing career

College

Van Exel began his college career at the small Trinity Valley Community College. There he recommended himself by his performance coach Bob Huggins for the Bearcats the University of Cincinnati. With this team he reached the Elite Eight mentioned the quarterfinals of the U.S. students Championships in his second and final year.

NBA

Van Exel was selected in the 1993 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers at 37th place. His rookie season with the Lakers was convincingly with 13.6 points and 5.8 assists on average in 81 games. Right in this first year as a professional, he scored more than 1000 points ( 1099 ). Before him had only Norm Nixon, James Worthy, Jerry West and Magic Johnson managed at the Lakers. So Van Exel 1994 All- Rookie Second Team elected to the NBA. As the NBA season 1996/97 he played alongside the later MVPs Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant. Later in 1998 he was elected the first and only time in his career in the All- Star team in the Western Conference. Then ( in the same year ) joined Van Exel to the Denver Nuggets. With the Nuggets, he played in the 2000 /01 season with 17.7 points and 8.5 assists on average the best season in his career. A year later, Van Exel was then transferred with Raef LaFrentz, Avery Johnson and Tariq Abdul- Wahad for Juwan Howard, Donnell Harvey and Tim Hardaway to the Dallas Mavericks, where he stood at the side of Dirk Nowitzki on the floor. For the Mavericks, he played mainly in the playoffs in 2003 and delivered an important role with 19.5 points on average strong performances from. After the playoffs of 2003, he was then with Evan Eschmeyer, Avery Johnson, Popeye Jones, and Antoine Rigaudeau for Antawn Jamison, Chris Mills, Danny Fortson, Jiri Welsch and transferred to the Golden State Warriors. After only 53 games for Portland Van Exel was once again compete for the title and signed with NBA Champion 2005 the San Antonio Spurs. As you walk in to the playoffs in 2006 failed in the second round by the Dallas Mavericks with 3:4, the left-hander ended his career as a basketball player.
