Nicola Ghiuselev

Nikola Gjusselew ( Bulgarian Никола Гюзелев; born August 17, 1936 in Pawlikeni, Bulgaria) is a Bulgarian opera singer ( bass). Since the 1960s, he is internationally recognized as a worthy colleague and successor of his countrymen Boris Hristov and Nikolaj Gjaurow. Like them, he cultivates mainly Russian ( Mussorgsky, Tchaikovsky, Borodin, Glinka ) and Italian (Verdi, Puccini ) repertoire but also the French repertoire ( Meyerbeer, Offenbach, Gounod ), is not averse.

Gjusselew first studied painting, but turned away because of his actual natural talent soon to study singing. His first memorable appearance was in 1960 in Sofia as Timur in Turandot. The international breakthrough came quickly, and with him the exit permits to the West, until - in 1965 -. At the Metropolitan Opera In 2000, the singer celebrated its anniversary.
