Nicolas Darvas

Nicolas Darvas ( * 1920, † 1977 in Paris) was a Hungarian dancer, punter and author.

He studied economics at the University of Budapest. During the Second World War, he fled from Hungary to Istanbul in Turkey. There he met with his (alleged) half-sister Julia Darvas. He learned there was dancing and a Turkish citizen. In 1951 he came to the U.S., where he worked with his sister as a professional dancer. The couple was on tour and danced in 1953, for example, with Judy Garland and Bob Hope.

His time as a speculator began in 1952, when he was in Toronto instead of a Gage shares of the construction company Brilund worth $ 3,000. He put them aside, and when he afterwards saw some time later, they were worth many times over, and he made the $ 8,000 profit. From now on, he took the time to wait between and before the performances, to read books about the stock market. Because he as a dancer was constantly on the move, its stock market information were always old. His main source was the Barron 's Magazine, which publishes weekly statistics and economic data from companies. It reached him usually one week after publication. So he developed the Darvas box theory. According to the company they helped him to earn within 18 months over two million dollars. With this method, he was one of the pioneers of technical chart analysis.

Author

After his success became known, he gave interviews in Time magazine and wrote books. He was sure even persecuted by the prosecutor. This was of the opinion that Darvas would have earned no two millions of dollars in the stock market. The suit was dismissed but 1961.
