Nicolas Jaar

Nicolas Jaar ( born January 10, 1990 in New York City ) is a Chilean- American musician.

Life

Nicolas Jaar is the son of the visual artist Alfredo Jaar. He spent his childhood in Chile. As a teenager, he returned to New York.

In 2004, Jaar began to mix electronic music under the influence of works by Mulatu Astatke and Erik Satie. This influence was also particularly Thé au Harem d' Album Archimede of the Chilean techno DJs Ricardo Villalobos. In addition Jaar calls influences such as Ethiopian jazz, hip hop and trip hop, as well as references to French culture with which he came in contact by his French mother. At age 17 he made his debut for the label with Wolf and Lamb EP The Student. 2009 Year founded his own label, Clown and Sunset.

His debut album Space Is Only Noise, he published in January 2011. Was highly praised by fans and critics, including rated as " Best New Music" from Pitchfork magazine industry with 8.4 of 10 points, in The Guardian, it got four out of five stars. Various scene websites and magazines chose the album "Album of the Year", such as Resident Advisor, Mixmag, Crack Mag, and Ranked # 2 in DJ Mag for the tour to the album Year founded a band whose sound he with the sounds combined from his laptop and with its own song. The band consists of his former classmates Will Epstein on saxophone and piano, Dave Harrington ( Jaar also with the duo Darkside forms ) on guitar and Ian Sim on drums.

Jaar is currently studying comparative literature at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Iceland.
