Nicole Barnhart

Nicole Renee Barnhart ( born October 10, 1981 in Pottstown, Pennsylvania) is an American soccer goalkeeper. She plays for FC Kansas City and for the U.S. national team.

Life and career

Barnhart grew up in Gilbertsville, Pennsylvania and played for the college team from Stanford University, the Stanford Cardinal. She was honored as an "All - Pacific Ten Conference player " in the years 2002, 2003 and 2004 and holds the Stanford women's record for the lowest Gegentorrate ( 0.41). From 2009 to 2010 she played for FC Gold Pride in the WPS. The club dominated the league and won the subsequent playoff final championship with 4-0 win over Philadelphia Independence. Because of financial problems the club but was disbanded in November 2010 and Banhart joined the playoff opponents.

Her first international match they came on October 16, 2004 because the actual strain goalkeeper Briana Scurry had another commitment. Since Barnhart had not played for the Cardinals the day before and was to play again the next day in the Bay Area for her, she was sitting in Kansas City for emergencies only on the bench. When in the 81st minute of the match against Mexico striker Angela Hucles injured, who had scored the 1-0, Barnhart had to be replaced as a striker in the 86th minute, as previously all outfield players who stood as a backup, had been loaded.

At the 2007 World Championships in China and the Beijing Olympics, where the USA won the gold medal for the third time, she participated only as third goalkeeper and was not used. However, they played a key role in the qualification for the Olympic Games when she could hold a penalty in the qualifying match against Canada, which was decided on penalties.

Their first competition as a regular goalkeeper - due to a shoulder surgery of Hope Solo - was the CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup in 2010, where the U.S. team only surprising third. Even with the resulting need two playoff games against Italy, she stood in the gate.

In 2011 she came in the first eight of ten games for use, including in all matches in the Algarve Cup, which the Americans won in March for the eighth time. Barnhart belonged to the squad of the U.S. for the World Cup 2011 in Germany.
