Nicole-Reine Lepaute

Nicole -Reine Lepaute (Nicole -Reine de la Brière Étable Lepaute; * January 5, 1723; † December 6, 1788 ) was a French astronomer in the Age of Enlightenment. Her husband Jean André Lepaute, whom she married in 1748, he was a royal clockmaker. 1762 Lepaute calculated the exact time of the eclipse in 1764. Moreover, she said correctly the return of Halley 's Comet in 1759 before.

Along with Alexis -Claude Clairaut and Jérôme Lalande, she worked on the calculation of the attraction of Jupiter and Saturn on Halley's Comet.

To their credit, the asteroid ( 7720 ) Lepaute and the moon crater was named Lepaute.
