Niconico

Nico Nico Douga (Japaneseニコニコ 動画, Niko Niko Doga ) is a Japanese video hoster, which is headed by Niwango. His nicknames are Nico Nico and Nico - dō, where niko niko Japanese Ideophon ( Gitaigo ) " smile " is for and Doga stands for " film". Nico Nico Douga is the ninth most visited on the site in Japan. The site has 2007 Japanese Good Design Award and recognition in the Digital Communities category at Prix Ars Electronica 2008.

Features

The videos can sound are encoded with AAC since July 5, 2008 with a high resolution with H.264. The uploader of the video can even add comments to the video, subtitles, lyrics or corrections. The uploader may insert in his comments also Nico script commands, such as voting or quiz.

History

Nico Nico used initially as a video source Youtube. Due to the very high data traffic, however, there was a lockout by Youtube.
