Niedów

Niedów ( German Nieda; 1937-45 Wolfsberg ) is a town in Upper Lusatia in southwestern Poland. It is located 13 kilometers south of Görlitz and Zgorzelec is part of the rural municipality in the Province of Lower Silesia.

Geography

Niedów is located in the Valley of the Witka shortly before its confluence with the Lusatian Neisse river and was flooded with the application of the Niedów Reservoir, mostly. The resulting part is located on the right bank of the reservoir. To the north, the Góra Borowa rises.

History

Traces point to an existing from the 9th to the 11th century Slavic castle overlooking the valley of Wittig. Excavations on Castle Hill, a rock-cut cistern was found.

The first mention of the town was in 1346, when the church of Nieda the status of a parish church and was under the Dean of Görlitz .. The estate was originally connected to Radmeritz. In 1515 King Vladislav II Jagiello granted Nicholas the Younger of Donin as the last male representative of the line Grafstein and Hirschfelde the sale of goods Radmeritz and Nida on the Görlitz patrician Bernhard Berndt. As a result of the Treaty of Vienna of 1815, the Wittig became the border between Saxony and Prussia. This Nieda was divided.
