Niels Thorkild Rovsing

Niels Thorkild Rovsing ( born April 26, 1862 in Flensburg, † January 14, 1927 in Copenhagen) was a Danish surgeon. Named after him Rovsing characters are ( clinical sign in appendicitis), the Rovsing operation ( in cystic kidneys ) and the Rovsing syndrome ( pelvic pain in the presence of a horseshoe kidney by vascular compression )

Rovsing studied at the University of Copenhagen, where he received his degree in 1885. He worked from 1892 to 1902 at the Louise - Børnehospital, later at the Red Cross Hospital.

In 1904 he became head of surgery at Frederiks Hospital. Since 1899 he was a professor of surgery at the University of Copenhagen, where he officiated in the academic year 1919/20, as rector. Not least, its call for a better surgical care led in 1910 to the founding of Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen.

In 1908 he founded the Danish Surgical Society ( Dansk Kirurgisk Selskap ) together with Eilert Tscherning ( 1851-1919 ). Some of his publications were translated into German and English.

Rovsing was honored with the 1902 Dannebrogorden.
