Nigerian National Museum

The Nigerian National Museum ( German: Nigerian National Museum ) is the National Museum of Nigeria, located in the district Onikan the city of Lagos. It houses the most significant archaeological, ethnographic and art historical evidence of the country. One of the outstanding exhibits include wood carvings, bronze sculptures and terracotta. The oldest exhibits are head of terracotta busts of the Nok culture from Jemaa and come from the period around 900-200 BC The museum was founded in 1957 by British archaeologist Kenneth Murray for the loss of national treasures by looting, destruction and sale in foreign countries to preserve. It is one of the central institutions of Nigeria to the study and preservation of cultural heritage and it aims to bring back the scattered abroad art treasures back to Nigeria.

In an accompanying craft center artisans offer traditional Nigerian arts and crafts.
