Nihilist Spasm Band

The Nihilist Spasm Band (NSB ) is a Canadian noise band in 1965 by Hugh McIntyre, John Clement, John Boyle, Bill Exley, Murray Favro, Archie Leitch, Art Pratten, and Greg Curnoe was in London, Ontario, was founded. Leitch has since retired, Curnoe came in 1992 in a car accident, and McIntyre died in 2004 of heart failure. The remaining band members continue to occur. None of them is a trained musician.

The term " Spasm Band " refers to a musical group that plays mostly on homemade instruments. Most of the instruments of the NSB are modified or invented by the band members musical instruments. The NSB instruments include, inter alia, the electric bass with 3 ½ strings ( 1 ½ piano strings and two bass strings ), the electric Riesenkazoo ( "giant electric kazoo " ) and the theremin, an electronic instrument that responds to the hand movements of the player. A further characteristic of the NSB is the complete improvisation.

Since 1966, the band performs every Monday night. According to the company, they play for their own pleasure, but public welcome. Other local performances came with time many concert tours, including to Japan. 1998 organized the band's first "No Music Festival " with noise musicians from Canada, the U.S. and Japan.
