Nikephoros Blemmydes
Nikephoros Blemmydes (also Blemmida ) (* around 1197 in Constantine Opel, † 1269-1272 ) was a Greek monk, physicians and educators. He is regarded as the greatest polymath in the Byzantine Empire of Nicaea - Nymphaeum.
After the establishment of the Latin Empire in 1204 his family emigrated to Asia Minor, where he received a thorough education. To 1223 he was chaplain Byzantines at Nicaea.
He became a monk and built 1243-1249 to be Hesychastenkloster Emathia at Ephesus.
As at Pentecost 1249 the mistress of John III. ( Byzantium ) appeared in the monastery church, he shooed them away.
Among his pupils was Georgios Akropolites.
Most of his works are in the Patrologia graeca and Bibliotheca Teubneriana.
