Niki Rüttimann

Nicholas " Niki " Rüttimann ( born August 18, 1962 in Untereggen ) is a retired Swiss cyclist.

Niki Rüttimann began at the age of 14 years to the sport of cycling. In 1979 he was Swiss Junior Champion in the road race, 1980, and 1981 national runner-up of the Mountain Championship. 1982 won Rüttimann the Grand Prix Guillaume Tell, and the following year he scored one of his greatest successes when he was vice-champion of the amateurs in the road race, behind the German Uwe Raab. In the same year he also won the Eastern Swiss tour.

1984 joined Niki Rüttimann, who was considered blinding tactician, to the pros and drove over first three years for the team La Vie Claire, among other things, the Bernard Hinault and Greg LeMond belonged. In the same year he became the first in the Clasica San Sebastian. 1985 won Rüttimann Paris - Bourges, 1986, the Route du Sud and the Etoile de Bessèges, 1989 Annemasse Bellegarde et retour and was second in the Swiss Championships in the road race. In 1990, he finished in the national championship in cross-country race in third.

Niki Rüttimann also launched at the Grand Tours, only seven times in the Tour de France. In 1984 he finished eleventh in the standings and third in scoring for the White jersey, 1985, he was 13, in 1986 and also won a stage in seventh. In the Tour de Suisse in 1985, he finished second overall, 1988 Tenth. In 1986, he was ranked ninth in the overall standings of the Giro d' Italia.

Since his retirement from cycling in 1990 Niki Rüttimann farmed the family farm in sub- harrows. His son Eric is sporting success as a runner.
