Niklas Andersson

Per Niklas Andersson ( born May 20, 1971 in Kungälv ) is a retired Swedish professional ice hockey player. During his career he played for the Quebec Nordiques, New York Islanders, San Jose Sharks, Nashville Predators and Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League.

His brother Mikael was also a professional hockey player in the NHL and Elitserien.

Career

Andersson began his career in the youth division of the Swedish club Frölunda HC. At the age of 16, he played in the senior team, and participated in the late 1980s and the early 1990s at several junior world championships. After he had risen with Frölunda at the end of season 1988 /89 by the HockeyAllsvenskan in the Elitserien, he ran at the age of 18 years the first time in a first-class professional league. He left Sweden in summer 1991 and finally took the plunge to North America. The Quebec Nordiques, where he had been contracted, who had selected him in the NHL Entry Draft in 1989 in the fourth round to 68th.

First, the Nordiques put the Swedes in the American Hockey League at the Halifax Citadel, their farm team, before he came during the 1993/94 season for the first time in three NHL games with the Nordiques used. In the AHL he impressed this season with 82 points in 75 games. Nevertheless, the three inserts remained until the end of the game year 1994/95, its only in the NHL. Therefore, he joined in the summer of 1995 as a free agent with the New York Islanders. After first few missions in the International Hockey League the winger made ​​the jump to the NHL squad, where he spent the remainder of the 1995/96 season, as well as the complete season 1996/97. With 43 ​​points in 74 games he also managed to be profitable camper NHL year. Although its common place changed Andersson in the summer of 1997 to the West Coast of the United States to the San Jose Sharks, thus a time of many changes at different NHL franchises began. After a year with the Sharks, the only five times put it in the NHL, the change to the Toronto Maple Leafs followed FreeAgent basis. Since it began this in the 1998/99 season exclusively in the IHL, Andersson was back to the New York Islanders transfer, where he remained until January 2000, August 1999, before he was put on the waiver list, from where it the Nashville Predators selected. However, he returned after only a month back to New York because it had placed on the waiver list and the Predators. Finally, he finished the season with the Islanders and moved in summer 2000 to the Calgary Flames. For the Flames, he came in the course of the season 2000/ 01 to only eleven missions, so he returned to Europe in the summer of 2001.

Andersson moved back to his hometown club in Frölunda, with whom he was in 2003 and 2005 to celebrate the Swedish championship in 2007 and was runner-up. Personally, he was awarded at the end of the 2002/03 season with the Guldhjälmen and Guldpucken. After the 2010/11 season he finished his playing career.

Internationally

Andersson took part in several world championships with the Swedish national team. He won three silver medals and one bronze medal. In addition, he played at the World Cup of Hockey Canada Cup in 1996 and 1991.
