Nikolay Kamov

Nikolai Ilyich Kamov (Russian Николай Ильич Камов, scientific transliteration Nikolai Kamov Il'ič; * 1.jul / September 14 1902greg in Irkutsk, .. † 24 November 1973) was the chief designer of the eponymous Soviet / Russian Kamov design offices, which specializes in the development of helicopters.

Life

Nikolai Kamov was the son of a teacher. In 1918 he started at the Technological Institute in Tomsk study for rail vehicle construction, from which he graduated in 1923 with a degree in engineering. Since he had decided while studying for the construction of aircraft, he took a job as a locksmith in the Junkers branch factory in Fili near Moscow. By the way he dealt with in the self study aerodynamics and aircraft design. Soon he joined the maintenance department of the airline Dobroljot. In 1928 he was inducted into the " Department of Seaplane Versuchsbau " ( OMOS ), which worked on the twin-engine flying boat torpedo TOM -1 under the direction of Dmitry Grigorovich.
