Nikolay Vasilyevich Fyodorov

Nikolai Vasilyevich Fyodorov (Russian: Николай Васильевич Фёдоров; born May 9, 1958 in Tschodino, Rajon Mariinsky Posad, Chuvash ASSR ) is a Russian politician Chuvash descent, former President of the Chuvash Republic ( 1993-2010 ) and, since May 21, 2012 Holiday Minister of Economy of Russia.

Biography

Nikolai Fyodorov studied law at the State University of Kazan, and then taught at the Chuvash State University, Cheboksary. In 1990 he was appointed to the Government of the RSFSR and became Minister of Justice of the Republic. He retained the post even after Russia became independent. In March 1993, he resigned from his post. In December 1993, he was elected the first President of the Republic of Chuvashia and sworn in on 21 January 1994. 1997 and 2001 he was re-elected, with the 2001 election is disputed. Nikolai Fyodorov comes from a large, ethnic Chuvash family. His father was a veteran of the Great Patriotic War. In the early 1960s the family moved from the village Tschodino to Cheboksary, the capital of the Chuvash ASSR. The family lived in Cheboksary next to a huge factory that manufactured chemical weapons. The oppressive, industrial atmosphere influenced the childhood of the young Nikolai Fyodorov.

Since 1983 Nikolai Fyodorov is married to Svetlana Fedorova Yuryevna. His wife is Russian is a native of Kostroma. With it, he has a son Vasily (* 1985) and a daughter Karina (* 1990).

Fedorov is a member of the Association of the Club Rotary International. He is fluent in Russian, Chuvash, German and a little English, French and Turkish. In his spare time Fyodorov busy with karate, swimming, skiing and chess.

Nikolai Fyodorov is a practicing Russian Orthodox Christian. He has been awarded of Radonezh, First Class of the Order of the Church of Sergius.
