Nile Kinnick

Nile Kinnick Clark Jr. ( born July 9, 1918 in Adel, Iowa, † June 2, 1943 in the Caribbean) was an American football player. As a running back from the University of Iowa in 1939, he won the Heisman Trophy. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy as a pilot on the aircraft carrier USS Lexington. In a training flight over the Gulf of Paria Kinnick crashed his plane. He was voted the best football player in the history of the University of Iowa in 1989.

Kinnick in 1939 was awarded the Sportsman of the Year Award from the Associated Press.
