Nim Li Punit

Nim Li Punit is the name of a Mayan ruin in the province of Toledo in Belize (Central America), which is located 40 km north of the town of Punta Gorda.

The name comes from the Mayan language and means as much as Great hat, which refers to a sculpture of a Mayan king found there. The site was occupied around the 5th century AD In modern times, the facility was first rediscovered in 1976 when oil drilling.

Nim Li Punit is composed of three plazas surrounded by several buildings ( among others step pyramids with a height of up to 12.20 meters ) and 25 stelae ( with a height of up to 9.50 meters). Some of the columns are unfinished, so it can be assumed that an abrupt end to the colonization. The findings suggest that Nim Li Punit peaked in the Late Classic Maya.

The facility is located approximately 40 miles from Punta Gorda, near the Mayan ruins Lubaantun.
