Nine Stones of Winterbourne Abbas

The Nine Stones of " Winterbourne Abbas " (also Nine Ladies or The Devil's Nine Stones called ), is an oval stone circle at the A35 ( road ), eight kilometers west of Dorchester in Dorset, England.

Not to be confused with Nine Stanes (also called " Garrol wood" or " Mulloch wood" called ) in Kincardineshire in Scotland or Nine Stones ( Dartmoor ) or Nine Stones ( Altarnun ). The circle of Winterbourne Abbas is a small circle of about 9.0 to 7.8 m in diameter. It consists of seven, less than a meter high rocks and the entrance on the northwest side, which is flanked by two large stones. One is a slim two -meter-high column. The other is a square about 1.8 m high block. The two smallest stones in the circle are opposite the entrance.

The antiquary John Aubrey described in the 17th century another circle, about 800 m west, which has been destroyed. An overturned two meters long stone, known as the "Broad Stone " lies, half-buried beside the road.
