Niño Ricardo

Niño Ricardo (actually: Manuel Sánchez Serrapi; born July 11, 1904 in Seville, † April 14, 1972 ) was a Spanish flamenco guitarist and composer.

Biography

Niño Ricardo learned early on from his father Ricardo Torres Serrapi play the guitar and metric rhythm ( compás ) and melodies of flamenco.

His appearance began in the cafes of Seville, where he first played professionally in the salon Variedades. He was strongly influenced by the art and the game Ramón Montoya, Javier Molina and Manolo de Huelva. He has influenced a generation of guitarists through his game and is also called by Paco de Lucía as a source of inspiration.

Cooperation

He worked with the best flamenco musicians of his time together, such as La Niña de los Peines ( Pastora ) and their brother Tomás Pavón, Pepe Pinto, Antonio Chacón, El Niño de Marchena, El Chocolate, Antonio Mairena, Manuel Torre and the great Sabicas, with whom he went on tour in 1949.

Curiosities

The road within sight of the Plaza de San Pedro in Seville, where he lived for decades, was renamed Calle Niño Ricardo, number 5 is the Casa del Maestro, where now a hotel is housed in Andalusian style. In Quartier Alameda de Hércules him also dedicated a statue. He is buried in the cemetery of San Fernando, among other personalities such as the flamenco singer Antonio Núñez Montoya, alias El Chocolate.
