Niobium (V ) fluoride is an inorganic chemical compound of niobium from the group of fluorides.

Production and representation

Niobium (V ) fluoride can be obtained with hydrofluoric acid by reaction of niobium ( V) chloride.

Also possible is the representation of the elements.

General it can be niobium (V ) fluoride similar to tantalum (V ) fluoride by fluorination with fluorine or hydrogen fluoride from the oxides ( niobium ( V) oxide ) win.

Properties

Niobium (V ) fluoride is a colorless very hygroscopic solid which is soluble under solvolysis in water and ethanol. It is slightly soluble in carbon disulfide and chloroform. With alkali metal hydroxide solutions he hydrolyzed. The highly refractive crystals deliquesce in air. As a solid (as opposed to the monomer gas ), the compound exists as a tetramer, and has a ring structure, form a nearly square parallelogram in which four niobium atoms. It has a monoclinic crystal structure with space group C2 / m.
