Nishiyama Sōin

Nishiyama Soin (Japanese西山 宗 因, born Nishiyama Toyoichi (西山 豊 一) * 1605 in the province of Higo, † May 5, 1682 probably in Kyoto ) was a Japanese Rengadichter.

Soin was young Samurai in the service of a daimyo on Kyushu. 1622 he went to Kyoto, where he established himself as Renga poets. He was the founder of Danrin Poet school ( after the poem Danrin Toppyaku, 1675), within which the haiku poetry established itself from its predecessors.
