Nitazoxanide

Nitazoxanide is a drug from the class of antiparasitic agents. It is a synthetic 5 - Nitrothiazolyl - salicylamide derivative for the treatment of parasitic infestation. Nitazoxanide in Germany has no authorization.

Effect

The effect is probably due to an interference with the pyruvate - ferredoxin oxidoreductase ( PFOR ) -dependent transfer of electrons that control energy metabolism in the parasite.

Pharmacology

With oral administration of fatty food potentiates the efficacy. Shares are metabolized to the active gastrointestinal tizoxanide - Metabolyten with almost complete protein binding. The maximum tizoxanide plasma levels reached after 1-4 hours. It is excreted via bile and deconjugation in the feces, as well as glucuronate and unchanged tizoxanide on kidney and urine.
