Nityananda Palit

Nitai Palit (actually Nityananda Palit; born March 8, 1923 in Cuttack, † July 26, 1990 ) was an Indian director of the Oriya film.

Life

Palit began as a playwright and theater producer and was active in the Indian People 's Theatre Association. His first contact with the film he had in 1953 as a performer in Amari Gaan Jhua of Vinay Bannerjee. The following year had Palit with Kedar Gouri, a tragic love story, his film debut as a director, together with the playwright Manoranjan Das ( * 1927). He achieved the breakthrough in 1965 with Malajanha, a screen adaptation of the classic novel by Upendra Kishore Oriya The playing from the year 1922. The main roles in this melodramatic epic film about the oppression of women in traditional society orissanischen Jharana Das and Akshay Kumar.

In the 1970s and 80s he was in 1982 awarded by the Government of Orissa multiple times with the Orissa Film Award for Best Director and for his life's work.

He died the age of 67 of a heart attack. In memory of him, the Orissa government awards an annual " Nitai Palit Award" to a filmmakers for its contribution to Oriya film.
