Nixa Records

The Nixa Record Company Ltd.. was a British record label.

Nixa was after the second Decca record company that released in the UK LPs. The major competitor EMI moved to the time before even the 45 min-1 single- format the 33- min - 1-LP format.

History

The company was founded in 1950 by New Zealand businessman Hilton Nixon. The Nixa label was bought in 1953 in part by Pye Radio and 1955 combined after the purchase of Polygon Records with this and renamed Pye Nixa. From 1987, the name of Nixa PRT Records was reused.

Repertoire

Nixa Records brought mainly the artists catalog of Compagnie Général du Disque, Paris in the countries of the Commonwealth of Nations. Among the artists were Dany Dauberson, André Claveau and other cabaret and jazz artists from Europe. The shellac records were pressed for Nixa with Decca. Later acquired Nixa licenses of various classic U.S. label as Period Records, Concert Hall Records, Haydn Society, and Vanguard Records, and market it in the United Kingdom and in the Commonwealth. Nixa but also made their own recordings in England.

Featured artist of Pye Nixa was Petula Clark, who published from 1955 to 1962 on the label, in English as in French. Many of her recordings for Pye Nixa were Top Ten hits in both the UK and in France.
