Noise mitigation

Noise reduction is a common term for usually statutory noise abatement measures to combat noise.

Germany

In Germany includes noise abatement all subsequent measures to protect against existing noise sources. These are voluntary programs that are carried out either by the Federal Highway Administration or by the respective operators of the traffic route and are limited by the financial resources. Unlike the so-called noise prevention measures, their limits can be observed in the construction and substantial change of railway, so there is no enforceable claim affected by noise to conduct a noise abatement.

For example, the following noise abatement construction projects are provided in Germany:

  • Construction of noise barriers
  • Installation of soundproof windows

In some places there are also road tunnel to be built predominantly or almost exclusively for noise abatement reasons. Examples are the noise reduction tunnel the A1 near Cologne Lövenich or at the southern end of the A57 in Cologne.
