Non-revenue track

Operating distance ( in Switzerland: service route) is the name given to a railway line, which is not intended for general traffic, but has a purely internal function. Operating distances are in route- based systems generally required such as catenary or track buses.

Characterization

From operating routes is mainly spoken in the area of public transport, ie with road and metro systems, but also in mountain, island and other small and narrow gauge railways. In the railways sector, the term is less common.
