Nonthaburi ( Thai: นนทบุรี ) is a large city ( เทศบาล นคร นนทบุรี ) in the Thai province of Nonthaburi. It is the capital of the district ( Amphoe ) Mueang Nonthaburi, Nonthaburi Province.

The city has 257 745 Nonthaburi residents. (2012 )

Geography

The Nonthaburi province is located in the central region of Thailand. The city of Nonthaburi is located 20 kilometers north of the capital Bangkok on the Chao Phraya River. Numerous small watercourses are at the center of life for many people, as it was still to be found in the capital city decades ago.

Economic importance and

The area of Nonthaburi is very profitable. Main products are fruit, which is grown on numerous plantations around. The German company Stiebel Eltron constructed in 2001 and a production facility for Shower Units and small water heater for the global market.

It is also home to the headquarters of Thaicom Public Company Limited, the company that operates the Thaicom satellite group.

History

Nonthaburi was an important city even during the Ayutthaya period. Twice the location of the town was moved to several kilometers. 1665 Nonthaburi was moved under King Narai in the newly built fortress on Maenam Om. 1928 ordered King Prajadhipok (Rama VII ) the transfer to the current location.

Attractions

The remaining Khlongs resemble the original cityscape of Bangkok, as it was found a few decades ago.

The old town hall on the banks of the Chao Phraya was in the reign of King Vajiravudh (Rama VI ). Built in European style and is decorated throughout with carved teak.
