Norbert Nigbur

Norbert Nigbur ( born May 8, 1948 in Gelsenkirchen ) is a former German football goalkeeper who played for FC Schalke 04 and Hertha BSC. Six times he was employed in the German national team.

Career

Clubs

Norbert Nigbur initially wanted to do an apprenticeship as a trotting race driver, but played in his youth for the SV Gelsenkirchen- Hessler football and was first used as a center forward. After he had taken the place of the referenced goalkeeper in a match and held two penalties, he was only used as a goalkeeper. On his 18th birthday, his father signed with Schalke president Fritz Szepan first professional contract, since his son was still a minor. The Berlin gig lasted about three years before he reconciled with Siebert and 1979 returned to Schalke.

In the season 1980/81 Schalke increased with 88 goals conceded from the 2nd Bundesliga. Nigbur held the club loyalty and contributed with his performances for immediate resurgence in. Thereafter, however, there was a falling out with the new manager Rudi Assauer, Nigbur was removed from the squad. Even today, he has a strained relationship with his former club Schalke 04, for which he was in a total of 466 official matches between the posts. Over the short six-month interlude at VfB Hüls, for which he ran aground the first time on 5 February 1984, he joined in the summer of 1984 to Rot-Weiss Essen in the time of his third-rate Oberliga Nordrhein, where he played 27 league games yet. In the subsequent promotion round he was no longer used, so that he ended his long career after the season 1984/85.

National

About the circle selection Nigbur came in the DFB youth team, for which he was used 13 times: the first time on March 21, 1965 in Oberhausen in the 1-2 defeat against the selection of Hungary, the last time on May 25, 1966 in Pristina at the 1 :3- defeat by the selection of Spain in preliminary round match of the UEFA youth tournament in Yugoslavia. On February 23, 1974 Nigbur debuted in the senior national team in the 0-1 defeat against Spain in Barcelona. He belonged to the squad of the national team that won the 1974 world title, however, was only behind goalkeeper Sepp Maier and did not play. On April 2, 1980, he graduated against Austria in Munich, his last of six international matches. At the European Championships in Italy in 1980, he was assigned as goalkeeper, but had to cancel due to a severe injury. Then Harald Schumacher was goalkeeper, Nigbur did not return to the national team.

After the End of career

Today ( 2010) has Nigbur property and a trotting team, further, he is now involved also in the Schalke golf circuit.

Remarkable

Mid -1970s undertook Nigbur a trip to pop business. He published the Jack White -produced single " If Schalke 04 would not " (A- side ) / " Oh Fata Morgana" (B-side ). All proceeds from this went to the Cancer Foundation. In 1979, he recorded a second single. The titles were: " 44 legs " (A- side ) / " That's why you know nothing about me ."
