Norbert Pfennig

Norbert Pfennig ( born July 8, 1925 in Kassel, † February 11, 2008 in Lingen ) was a German microbiologist.

Life

Norbert Pfennig was the son of Gertrude, nee Schunk, and Hermann penny. He was married to Helga Bantelmann and had five children.

Norbert Pfennig studied biology and received his doctorate in 1952 at the Georg -August- University of Göttingen with the work studies on actinomycin -producing actinomycete strains and their actinomycins.

In 1967 he received an appointment at the Georg -August- University of Göttingen from 1981 until his retirement he was Professor of Microbial Ecology at the University of Konstanz.

Work

Research focus of penny was the Microbial Ecology. He was a member of several scientific societies, such as an associate member of the Institute of Microbiology and Genetics, University of Göttingen, member of the Society for Radiation and Environmental Research (GSF ), a member of the German Society for Hygiene and Microbiology ( VAH ), the British Society for General Microbiology ( SGM), the U.S. American Society for Microbiology (ASM ) and senior fellow of the Bergey's Manual Trust.

He was in 1980 the first prize winner of the Grand Prize of the German Society for Hygiene and Microbiology " ( VAH ) .. He had an honorary doctorate.

In 1999, Brian Tindall for Amoebobacter purpureus Eichler and Pfennig 1989 ( today Lamprocystis purpurea ) from the family Chromatiaceae own genus, which he named in honor Pfennigia penny.

His botanical author abbreviation is " penny ".
