Norfolk Island National Park

The Norfolk Iceland National Park is a 650 -hectare national park on the belonging to Australia Norfolk Island, as well as on the adjacent Phillip Island. The islands lie approximately 1,700 km east from Sydney and 1,100 km north- west of Auckland, New Zealand.

Of the total area of the Park there are 460 acres in the north of Norfolk Island ( the Mt Pitt section ). More 190 ha located on the Phillip Island. Located on the coast of Norfolk Island is the Captain Cook Monument, which commemorates the landing of the navigator in 1774.

The national park was established in 1986.

Wildlife

Especially in the summer months can be in the national park sea birds such as wedge-tailed shearwater and Little Shearwater, the masked booby, the red-tailed tropic bird, the Sooty Tern, Noddis ( Anous minutus), the Fairy Tern, binding and Arielfregattvogel observe some in large numbers.

Due to its distance from the mainland are only two bat species to the natural land - mammal fauna. However, some species such as rats and cats were brought in and now need to be tackled to avoid damage. The reptiles are represented by only two species, a gecko and a skink species.
