Norfolk State University

The Norfolk State University is an African American government, historic University in Norfolk, Virginia. It was founded in 1935 as the Norfolk State Unit of Virginia Union University ( VUU ).

1942, the college was independent of VUU and was named Norfolk Polytechnic after College ( NPC). Once in Virginia in the next two years, a new legislation was brought, it was part of the Virginia State University (then called Virginia State College ), and awarded its first degrees in 1956.

In 1969, the Academy broke away from Virginia State College, and was renamed Norfolk State College. As the university in 1979 erlang the rank of a university, she received her current name.

Currently here are enrolled 12,500 students.

Sports

The sports teams of the Norfolk State University are the Spartans. The university is a member of the Mid- Eastern Athletic Conference.
